When writing great Metadata for your website or blog, ideally you should be doing keyword and competition research before you do the following checklist. But let’s say you’ve done all the research, and you’re ready to get creative with your fingers on the keyboard.
Here’s a step by step checklist to make sure you set the best possible foundations for SEO and good user experience.
1. Ensure you use the keywords you are targeting in your Meta title using the exact matching keyword
2. Ensure you use the keywords, or at least variations/synonyms of the keywords in your Meta description
3. Don’t exceed the recommended character length for both Meta titles and Meta description
4. Ensure you are shouting about your USPs (unique selling points/propositions)
5. Add a call to action. You really want to make sure that there is a reason to click on your listing and for users to action something
6. Write using enticing copy which is likely to lure search engine users to click on your listing rather than a competitor’s listing
7. Write for logical user experience. When a user clicks on your listing, they should land on a page which exactly matches what they were looking for and answer the questions they were asking
8. Write with grammatically correct language. If you are writing in your second language, ask a native to check your work before it goes live
